I was never a massive Call of Duty fan. I never have been, If I’m honest it stems from the stereotype of girl gamer MW2 players. The same with battle royale games – I dabbled but not my favourite.
That all changed when I downloaded Warzone.
My love for tactical, fast paced slaughter was satisfied. After a few bashes on Warzone for a few months, I noticed Call of Duty Black OPs Cold War would be released soon. £50 on a COD game – who am I.
I started playing Zombies with a few friends and was hooked. I do love a good horde game; horde mode on Gears of War was always my favourite game type.
That was until…the update.
The new firebase map. I was wishing the time away at work, mentally planning – get home, start update, kill phil, shop for snacks.
After the 60gb update, I was ready. I got to the title screen, and then – FATAL ERROR and the game crashed. Leaving me with the below message. Clicking scan and repair didn’t seem to do anything.

Error Code 0x0000005 (0x0) N
Signature: 6AAE8B82-4831716-99081BCE-A1F9ABD0
Location: 0x 140FC1C91 (8521522/8520622)
I then retreated to google, and what horrors did await me. I popped onto Reddit – and loads of other users across all platforms had the same issue. They had bodged the update. The worst part – everyone I knew had no issues!
By this point I was pissed off. Further motivated by the fact I couldn’t log into my Activision account to join in on others ranting. I could submit a bug report on Activision, but no contact details could be entered. (I did this anyway, to vent)
I also discovered that this was not a new problem, some users had been experiencing this issue form day 1! With no resolution!
So I did the only thing I could do, I went full support technician on this issue. Determined to close this ticket.
Things I tried –
–Updated Graphics card drivers (and re-installed at a later stage)
–Windows Update
–Scan and Repair on game in Blizzard Client (took ages and did nothing)
–Scan and repair on system (sfc /scannow)
–Ended all overlays, discord, razer, oculus etc
–Started in safe mode from Blizzard Client (useless)
–Restarted machine (a lot)
I was so hesitant to uninstall and re-install. Also, from the reddit post I could see other users had tried this, even switching the install to a M2 drive from a HDD. And still no joy!
I had to face facts, I had to wait for a patch. And so, I did.
The next day, Activisions website seemed to acknowledged there was an issue. And today, I finally got to play the new map.

From the reddit post I saw, some users still seem to be having an issue though –
